Interviewing Author Mary Ann Carman
Q1. Tell me about your self, what are your favorite books to read?
A. I'm a mother, and a grandmother, and administrative assistant in a local non-profit.
I'm the president of the Society of Southwestern Authors and I try to keep busy
with my writing and reading.
I like to read mystery and suspense. Just finished an Olivia Jaymes book that was
exciting and I need to get the rest of the trilogy. I also like cozy mystery especially ones
with paranormal included.
Q2.When did you decide you were going to write a book?
A. I started writing in 1997. I was reading historical romance at the time and thought
I could write as well as the authors I was reading. That's when I began to plot
my Clan Hewit Trilogy. I researched for nearly three years before writing so by
the time I got to my laptop the first book almost wrote itself and was published
by a small press in Maryland in 2003. The other two books came a bit slower and
weren't published until much later in 2015.
Q3. How did you come up with name of your books?
A. The titles usually come to me as I'm writing. A particular scene strikes me and
the title is just there on the page and in my mind.
Q4. What are you working on for 2019?
A. I should be working on the final book in the Love After Life series, but my
head is in another place right now. There's so much going on at my job
that my writing has taken a hit. I may do the third book in the Chronicles
Between the Pages. That's been on my mind lately - or I might do what
I've done before and write books in both series at the same time.
Q5. How long have you been writing?
A. As I noted in one of the other questions, I began in 1997 so I've been
at this for a long time, but I took a break (so to speak) for quite a few
years before getting back into it. Picked back up in 2014 and all my books
except Never To Love were written since then.
Q6. What advice would you give other authors?
A. Don't write what you know, you'll get bored before you finish the book. You
can toss in bits and pieces of your knowledge, but you should write what
you are passionate about, what you want to learn more about.
Q7.Where can people find you online?
A. I am on Facebook, Mary Ann Carman The MAC Team, also my website
Q8. Do you plan on making more books in the future?
A. I can't help myself. I will write until I can't. That's the nature of being an
author. Writing is a passion in itself.
Q9. How many books have you written?
A. I currently have 9 books available online at any bookstore you can find.
Q10 did you go to college to be a writer?
A. I did take some online classes and worked with a mentor for a while, but
the writing really is just coming from me. I didn't take college classes to
get to where I am.
