interviewing Author Joe Melillo

interviewing Author Joe Melillo  Q.1 when did you decide you were going to write a book? A. Well, first I have to be upfront about the fact that I'm primarily a songwriter, and my Parker The Platypus series of children's books are based off songs I wrote and recorded.  When I got the inspiration for the first song, I just knew that it had to also be a children's book, and I had that in mind as I was writing the words. Q.2 how did you come up with the name of your books  A. That was part and parcel of the inspiration that hit me when I first conceived of the song.  The way I describe it is that the song has existed since the dawn of time and it chose me to give it form.  I woke up one morning and randomly thought:  "the platypus doesn't fit into the animal kingdom very nicely.  Why hasn't anyone written a song using a platypus to demonstrate how hard it is to fit in with other kids?"  I knew the title would be "(na...

Interviewing children's author JRenee Heimerman

Interviewing children's author JRenee Heimerman  Q1. when did you decide you were going to write a book? A. I remember wanting to write an ABC book when I was in middle school.  Not sure why.  I pictured it as being a traditional ABC book.  I had a picture of a lion flying a kite for K and L.  It's funny thinking back on that memory. Q.2 how did you come up with the name of your books  A. The ABCs of Rose was written in an afternoon and the words just flowed.  There was never any thought that went into the name.  When the story was finished, it was simply titled The ABCs of Rose.  I didn't see any other possible title. Q. 3 what are you working on now for 20 18? A. My next book is at the illustrator right now.  It is called Tommy's ABCs and teaches the same lesson a different way.  Tommy thinks poorly of himself because he couldn't play basketball like the other kids in gym class.  ...

interviewing children's author Holly Marcus

interviewing children's author Holly Marcus Q1.when did you decide you were going to write a book? A.  I decided to write a book after my second child was born. I quit my job to be a stay at home mom and found myself wondering what my kids would be like in the future. The two main characters in my book are based on my children but four years older. I also realized that there are many books out there that don't hold much educational value, and I wanted to create a book with the idea that kids inherently like learning and strive to learn on their own.  Q.2 how did you come up with the name of your books  A. The name of my book, The Best Treehouse in the World, comes from the way I end each chapter. The main character says, "This a great treehouse, but there is something missing..." Then she finds a way to improve it and by the end of the book, she has the best treehouse in the world. Q. 3 what are you working on now for 20 18? A. I am ...

interviewing young adult  author  Allistar Banks Q.1  When did you decide you were going to write a young adult book? A. I decided I was going to write a young adult book about my weight loss journey and how I had faith in God to pull me through the hard times in my life that lead me up to my highest and lowest weight six months ago. Q. 2 How did you come up with the name of your books? A.  I came up with “Lenny the Lizard and His Green Scarf” shortly after my parents got divorced and I received a green cashmere sweater and scarf that made me feel good inside and gave me comfort from their separation. “Nosy Nicole and the Red Airplane” was based on how I was always a curious girl growing up and I loved getting into everything and Nicole is one of my favorite names for little girls. “Spring Brings Summer” was based on memories I had growing up in the spring and summer time. My fourth book to come out soon is “A Colorful Balloon Ride” is bas...

interviewing children's author Stacy Bauer

Q.1.  when did you decide you were going to write a book? I've  enjoyed writing since I was a child. I became a teacher and had 2 children, but I've always wanted to write a book, so last year, I took a leave from my teaching job and took the leap to become a published author! Q.2 how did you come up with the name of your books I wanted to write about something I know a lot  about, so my books are based on my 2 children. I wanted to use animals for the characters because I thought then every child could relate to the characters. I chose kangaroos because they are cute, can jump high and get into things and can put things in their pouches The series name is "Cami Kangaroo and Wyatt Too" because my kids are named Cami and Wyatt and "kangaroo" and "too" rhyme. I made a list of things my kids have done, as well as the lesson it could teach. I started with "too many sweets", because sneaking treats we...
