Interviewing Author Stanley Umezulike

Interviewing Author  Stanley Umezulike

Q1. Tell me about yourself what are your favorite books to read?

A. My name is Stanley Umezulike. I am the author of Twisted. I was born and raised in Nigeria. I write family drama, thriller, and romance stories set in tropical Africa. Recently, I dabbled into crime fiction. I’m an avid reader. I read books in romance, thriller, and crime fiction genre. When I’m not writing, I love listening to good music and watching Crime Thriller TV shows.

Q2. When did you decide you were going to write a book?

A. As a child, I love reading books. I remember my father would give me newspapers, and novels to read whenever he came back from work. As I grew older, Chinua Achebe, Sidney Sheldon, and Clive Cussler became my favorite authors. Reading their books inspired me to write. One day, I picked up a pen and challenged myself to write the kind of book I like to read. I was 14 then. What I wrote was a ten-page story but that was the beginning. I wrote my first complete novel at the age of 18. I’ve been writing ever since.

Q3. How did you come up with the name of your books?

A. The title comes to me as I think about the story. Sometimes, I also do brainstorming sessions with my writer friends.

Q4. What are you working on for 2020?

 A. Right now, I’m working on a 60k fiction story—a mix of crime fiction and romance set in Abuja, Nigeria. It doesn’t have an official title yet. Once I'm through with this story, I'll start working on a family drama titled Lie in wait. I also have an outline for a crime thriller with the title—Never Go Back.

Q5. How long have you been writing?

A. I’ve been writing since I was 14.

Q6. What advice would you give other authors?

A. Read a lot of books in your genre. Read in different genres as well. Remember, every great author was once an amateur writer. Don’t compare yourself with anyone. Don’t be afraid to write your own story. You are the only one who can do it justice.

Q7. Where can people find you online?

Q8. Do you plan on making more books in the future?

A. Yes, I have so many stories in my head. I’m just getting started.

Q9. How many books have you written?

A. I have written five books. But I have published three books. I am working on getting the rest of my manuscripts polished and published.

Q10 Did you go to college to be a writer?

A. I obtained a degree in Political Science and later a Master's in International Relations. I love reading books. I’m glad that I'm now writing the kind of books I enjoy reading.

Author's Note: Thank you very much, ma'am, for giving me this wonderful opportunity.
