Interviewing Author Sheyanne Warren

Sheyanne Warren

1. My name is Sheyanne Warren. I am a middle school special education teacher (socials studies & science) by day and author by night. I have a master's degree in forensic psychology. I am a self-proclaimed bibliophile and enjoy family game nights and movie nights.

2. My favorite genre is thriller/suspense and crime fiction. Most times those two genres go hand in hand. My favorite author of all time is Cynthia Eden however, my favorite author right now is Blake Pierce.

3. My first novel was published in 2018 and I decided that year that I was going to publish it. It was time for state testing and proctors and testing administrators are not allowed any electronics or anything. So I got out a notebook and began writing. Now, I am five books in.

4. First I came up with the name. I knew that I wanted the main character to be of Hispanic descent and I researched a name that I liked and decided that her name was going to be the title of the series. The rest of the title came when I started developing the plot. Jelena Cohort was born.

5. Right now I am in the middle of a vigilante book. It has three main characters or females. That's my thing. I write female main characters of color. I am a little less than halfway through. I took a little break to study for my licensure test but I plan on publishing this one sometime in July.

6. I've technically been riding all my life. I have journals and notebooks all over everywhere and every house I've ever lived in with different stories and ideas that I write down. I have always been professionally writing since 2018.

7. One piece of advice I would give authors, especially in the authors is you need a team, you need a team, you need to change. There are things that you have to do before you publish such as social media building a platform finding your target audience. And don't get me wrong all of those things are extremely important however not having a team is going to be your downfall. You need an editor, cover design or illustrator, some type of marketing coach or strategist. You also need to start thinking about your beta in your ARC which is also very important. There is a webinar on my website entitled self-publishing 101 that is basically all the mistakes that I made first off of being a self-published author.

8. My website is swarrenauthor.com. You can find all my links to Instagram, Facebook, Tic Toc etc at swarrenauthor.com/the-hub.

9. I am a big fan of medium roast coffee with hazelnut creamer. I love flavored coffee too and flavors mocha, caramel, or hazelnut.

10. I don't really have a favorite coffee shop. I'm currently in the market to find a small business or mom-and-pop coffee shop to go to. I Really Don't Do Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts because buying coffee every day is out of my budget. When I go get the bulk K-Cups from Costco I usually get the medium roast in their house brand and then I get the hazelnut creamer.

11. My plan is to be making books every 3 to 4 months. I am getting my marketing plan set in really hoping that so that it's most effective for me. However, even if no one ever reads one of my books ever in the future I am very content in the fact and the achievement I feel from being published.

12. I have brought a total of 5 books. Three full novels and two novellas. It is a total of three series. I have a full novel of paranormal crime fiction with one and two. I have a novella series with books one and two. One novella is a coming-of-age story and the other one is paranormal fiction. I also have one of a young adult fantasy series.

13. I did not. As I mentioned I went to college to be a forensic psychologist. Specifically what that is for me is working with juveniles in state custody and residential treatment or in a school district school setting who have mental or behavioral struggles.
