Interviewing Twin Authors: Susan Lavin and Patti Sapp

Q1. Please tell me more about yourself?

A. We are twin sisters, and we’ve been telling stories in both professional settings and to our own children and now grandkids for many years. We share a love for our natural environment, and also have a deep connection to each other.

Q2. What are your favorite books to read?

A. We both have the same preference for books, as it turns out, similar to the ones we write.  We enjoy nature, strong women characters, serene settings, and stories that include plot twists.  We steer clear of books with violence, especially towards women and children, but like to read about kindness, compassion, and empathy.

Q3. Do you like coffee or tea?

A. Patti likes Sumatra coffee, and Susan likes Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea.

Q4. How many books have you written?

A. We have written three books, creating the Tree-Hugger series. The books include: Listen to the Trees, Magical Forest Musings, and Whispers Under the Chestnut. A few descriptions from reader reviews include:

“The characters are truly relatable”

“I couldn’t stop reading.”

“The Tree-Hugger series speaks to the heart and brings the reader into the transformative world of nature.”

Q5.Do you have a favorite bookstore?

A. Honestly, we love old bookstores to browse, and treasure our book collections, but purchase lots of books via Amazon.

Q6. Did you go to college for writing?

A. No, neither of us went to college specifically for writing. Although, between the two of us we’ve taught children ranging from kindergarten through college for over 5 decades. Being versatile in career paths, Patti also helps scores of clients through her current practice of hypnosis.

Retirement plans are in the near future, and hopefully, we’ll explore more writing adventures together.

Q7. Growing up What were your favorite books to read?

A. We loved to pour over Misty of Chincoteague, and dream of riding horses.  We also liked Heidi, with all the nature scenes.

Q8. How did you get inspired to write a book?

A. Writing has always been an interest, and during the pandemic, the dream of writing books became a reality. We co-authored our books, using a google doc and Facetime. During the process, we enjoyed both fits of laughter, and endured outbursts of tears, depending on which part of our story we were working on. We also realized it’s true, we really do complete each other’s sentences.

Being twins, we’re very close and used to spending quite a bit of time together, and it was a challenge not to during quarantine, when it was safer to be at home, in our individual homes. So, our solution was Facetime and writing.

Q9. What hobbies do you have?

A. We enjoy being creative and painting the covers for all three books. Since then, we discovered the love of painting and started creating multi-media art with a combo of painting, with embellishments of vintage jewelry.

Q10. Is walking on a tropical beach a hobby?

A. Seriously, we love nature and sunshine, so being together either for a walk in the woods, listening to birds, or strolling along a beautiful beach with calm rolling waves, is heaven.

.

Q11. Do you have a favorite coffee shop?

A. We actually prefer to join each other at our homes, for cups of tea or coffee, along with sweet treats, outside, sitting among the trees, and our gardens.

Q12. Where can people find you online?

A. We have both a Facebook and Instagram page, both Twins, Trees, and Books.
